This is a little bit late none the less worth talking about. We went to a House Show at a friends house on Sunday night. Having never been to a house show before we had no idea what to expect. It was fantastic. We got to meet and hang out with a bunch of people we’d never met and probably would never have crossed paths with. The music was fantastic!
Randy played first. He wrote some music to a poem I had written a few years back so I thought I knew what to expect. He was good a couple years ago but his writing has matured so much. His lyrics are incredibly deep and also pretty funny at times. He has a very Iron & Wine/Nick Drake sound. He’s not an online sort of guy so you just have to physically stalk him if you want to hear his music.

The Bell & The Hammer were next. I’d never even heard of them except for knowing that Dan is part of the Koala Fires. With that I was slightly expecting some punk rock and somewhat unsure of what we’d be hearing but there was to be none of that punkishness this evening. They have some great melodies along with beautiful voices on the both of ‘em. I cannot get “When You Die” out of my head. I’m sure there are lots more words that could describe what they do. If you need a few, consider these: calm, beautiful, and complicated.
They are working on their first album as we speak and if you get a chance to see them live, you should jump on that like a kangaroo. Now go listen!

Word.
